Mitsubishi Outlander Key Not Detected

The Mitsubishi Outlander keyless operation key uses a very weak electromagnetic wave. In these situations detailed below, the keyless operation system may not operate correctly,  may become unstable or the key may not be detected.

  • Due to the key using a weak electromagnetic wave, nearby equipment that emits strong radio waves may interfere with the key / car communication. This may include a power station, radio / TV broadcasting station or airport.
  • Other devices that you may be carrying can also interfere with the electromagnetic communication such as mobile / cell phone, radio set or other personal computer devices.
  • Interference may occur if the key is touching or is covered by a metal object.
  • Another keyless entry system is being used nearby.
  • When the battery power in the keyless operation key has expired. The keyless operation key continually is listening for signals in order to communicate with the transmitters in the vehicle. This means the battery in the key is constantly being used. Typical battery life is from 1 to 3 years depending on usage. Because the key is constantly receiving signals, leaving the key in areas where it receives signals from other devices such as a TV, computer or other electronic devices may reduce the life of the battery.
  • When the keyless operation key is kept in an area with strong radio waves or noise. In this instance, use the emergency key.
  • You are not within operating range of the vehicle. Operating range is about 70 cm from the driver’s door handle, front passenger’s door handle, and tailgate handle. Even if you are within operation range, if the key is very low to the ground or too high up, the key may not be detected.
  • If the keyless operation key is in operation range and is in the vehicle, it may still not be possible to start the engine if the key is in the glove compartment, on top of the instrument panel, the door pocket or the luggage area or any other area where the vehicle and key may have difficulties communicating.
  • A door or the tailgate is open or ajar.
