What Battery Does the Hyundai i30 Keys Use?

The Hyundai i30 remote control key and the smart keys use battery type CR2032. These batteries are easily purchased online or in many high street stores.

To replace the battery in your Hyundai i30 Mk 1 or Mk 2 remote key, do the following:

  1. Press the button on the remote fob to open out the key.
  2. In the slot where the key folds into the fob, you can use your fingers to pry off the transmitter cover or use a tool such as a screwdriver.
  3. Take note of the position of the battery in the compartment with the ‘+’ symbol facing upwards.
  4. Use a pick or small flat screwdriver to pry out the dead battery and replace it with a new one (CR2032) ensuring the ‘+’ symbol is facing upwards.
  5. Press the cover back onto the transmitter until it clicks in place.

To replace the battery in your Hyundai i30 Mk 2 smart key, do the following:

  1. First remove the mechanical key. Press and hold the button on the key fob (1).
  2. Pull out the mechanical key (2).
  3. In the slot that is now visible down the side, use the smart key end or a screwdriver to pry open the cover. Key fobs vary, if you do not have a slot running down the side, pry the key fob apart by inserting a flat screwdriver into the end where the mechanical key is removed.
  4. Take note of the position of the battery in the compartment with the ‘+’ symbol facing downwards.
  5. Use a pick or small flat screwdriver to pry out the dead battery and replace it with a new one (CR2032) ensuring the ‘+’ symbol is facing downwards.
  6. Press the cover back onto the transmitter until it clicks in place.
  7. Reinsert the mechanical key.

To replace the battery in your Hyundai i30 Mk 3 remote key (2019 model), do the following:

  1. Press the button on the remote fob to open out the key.
  2. Look into the slot where the key folds into the fob, you’ll notice two small indentations.
  3. Use a small flat screwdriver and insert it into the indentation to pry off the remote cover. Do this in both indentations.
  4. You’ll now require a small star screwdriver / Phillips screwdriver to remove the battery cover.
  5. With the battery cover removed, take note of the position of the battery in the compartment with the ‘+’ symbol facing upwards.
  6. Use a pick or small flat screwdriver to pry out the dead battery and replace it with a new one (CR2032) ensuring the ‘+’ symbol is facing upwards.
  7. Reinstall the battery cover and screw back into place.
  8. Press the cover back onto the remote key until it clicks in place.

To replace the battery in your Hyundai i30 Mk 3 (2019) smart key, do the following:

  1. First remove the mechanical key. Move the release lever in the direction of the arrow (1).
  2. Pull out the mechanical key. You might have to give it a good tug (2).
  3. In the slot that the mechanical key came out from, insert a small flat screwdriver and pry off the rear cover of the smart key.
  4. Take note of the position of the battery in the compartment with the ‘+’ symbol facing downwards.
  5. Use a pick or small flat screwdriver to pry out the dead battery and replace it with a new one (CR2032) ensuring the ‘+’ symbol is facing downwards.
  6. Press the cover back onto the transmitter until it clicks in place.
  7. Reinsert the mechanical key.
