Škoda Superb Key Fob Battery Change

Here we explain how to change the battery in the Škoda Superb key fob for all models. Your Škoda Superb key fob battery should last about 3 to 4 years depending on use. If you’re experiencing difficulties unlocking your car using the remote, it’s always recommended to change the battery before exploring more complex issues.

Škoda Superb Mk 1 Key Battery Change

Use this guide to change your Škoda Superb first generation (Mk 1, 2001 – 2008) key fob battery.

  1. Flip out the key.
  2. The key fob is divided into two sections, the key section (A) and the transmitter housing that contains the battery (B). Use a flat-head screwdriver to prise apart the two sections.
  3. On section ‘B’ the transmitter housing, pull off the cover (C) in the direction of the arrow.
  4. Inside you’ll see a battery. Take note of how the battery is placed in the transmitter housing with the ‘+’ symbol of the battery facing downwards.
  5. Remove the used battery and replace with a new CR2032 battery ensuring the positive (+) is facing downwards.
  6. Ensure the battery is firmly clicked in place, then insert the cover to click in place.
  7. Finally, insert the transmitter housing section back into the key section and press to lock both parts together.

Škoda Superb Mk 2 Key Battery Change

Use this guide to change your Škoda Superb second generation (Mk 2, 2008 – 2015) key fob battery.

  1. Flip out the key.
  2. Push off the battery cover (A) using your thumb or by using a flat-head screwdriver. Prise off the battery cover by placing the screwdriver in the cutout located where the arrows are pointing (1).
  3. Inside you’ll see the used battery. Take note of how the battery is placed in the key fob with the ‘+’ symbol facing upwards.
  4. Remove the discharged battery from the key fob by pressing the battery down within the region of arrow ‘2’.
  5. Insert a new CR2032 battery ensuring the ‘+’ terminal is facing upwards.
  6. Insert the battery cover (A) and press down until it clicks in place.

Note
If the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked after replacing the battery, the key must be synchronised with the vehicle. A loss of synchronisation can occur if the buttons on the remote are pressed a number of times outside of the operating range of the vehicle, or the battery inside the remote fob has been replaced. Synchronise the key as follows.

  1. Press any button on the remote control key fob.
  2. Now unlock the door with the key in the door lock within 1 minute of pressing the button.

Škoda Superb Mk 3 Key Battery Change

Use this guide to change your Škoda Superb third generation (Mk 3, 2015 – present) key fob battery.

  1. Flip out the key.
  2. Prise off the battery cover (A) with your thumb or use a flat-head screwdriver inserting it in area ‘B’.
  3. Flip the battery cover up in the direction of arrow ‘1’.
  4. Inside you’ll see the discharged battery. Take note of how the battery is placed in the key fob with the ‘+’ symbol facing upwards.
  5. Remove the old battery from the key fob in the direction of arrow ‘2’.
  6. Insert a new CR2025 battery ensuring the ‘+’ terminal is facing upwards.
  7. Insert the battery cover (A) and press down until it clicks in place.

Note
As with the Škoda Superb Mk 2 key fob, it may require synchronisation with the vehicle if the buttons have been pressed a number of times when out of range of the vehicle or if the battery has been replaced. See above for details.

Use this guide to change your Škoda Superb third generation (Mk 3, 2015 – present) KESSY (Keyless Entry, Start and Exit System) battery.

  1. Unlock the locking switch (A) in the direction of arrow ‘1’ and remove the emergency mechanical key (B) in the direction of arrow ‘2’.
  2. Insert a narrow 3 mm wide flat-head screwdriver approximately 12 mm into the opening in the direction of arrow ‘3’.
  3. Rotate the screwdriver in the direction of arrow ‘4’ until the battery cover opens.
  4. Push up the battery cover (C) in the direction of arrow ‘5’.
  5. You’ll now see the discharged battery. Take note of how the battery is placed in the key fob with the ‘+’ symbol facing upwards.
  6. Remove the old battery in the direction of arrow ‘6’ and replace with a new CR2032 battery ensuring the ‘+’ terminal is facing upwards.
  7. Replace the battery cover (C) and press down until it clicks in place.
