Ford S MAX Start Stop Not Working

Ford S MAX Start Stop Not Working

The Ford S MAX start stop system is designed to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by stopping the engine when it is idling. Versions of the S Max that uses auto stop start technology have an enhanced starter motor that is designed for an increased number of engine starts and a battery that can also handle increased starts.

There are numerous checks the start stop system must go through before auto stop is induced. If your Ford S MAX start stop is not working, it’s likely one or more of these checks has failed and as such, auto stop will be unavailable. In such instances, you may receive the message: Auto Start Stop Not Available. The start stop system makes the following checks and will not initiate:

  • If you have opened the driver door.
  • If the hood / bonnet is open.
  • If the accelerator is operated.
  • If you have unfastened the driver seat belt.
  • If your vehicle is at a high altitude.
  • If you have switched the heated windshield on.
  • If the engine is warming up.
  • If the engine coolant temperature is too hot or too cold. Auto stop initiates when the coolant temperature is greater than 60°C and less than 115°C.
