If they remain on, do not continue driving and contact a Renault workshop. The illumination of + + + means that there’s a brake system malfunction.
Low Fuel Warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic low fuel warning light comes on in orange along with an audible signal there is only approximately 30 miles (50 km) worth of fuel remaining.
Battery warning Light
If the Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic battery warning light comes on in red while driving, accompanied with the STOP warning light and an audible signal, it means there’s an overload or discharge in the electrical circuit. Check:

- This indicates a fault with the engine lubrication system.
- Contact a Renault workshop and arrange for vehicle recovery.
ESC warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is a driving safety feature that helps to maintain vehicle stability. Various sensors around the vehicle calculate speed and direction. If the ESC warning light flashes, it means the system is operating in an attempt to stabilise the vehicle. If the warning light comes on along with the spanner fault warning light and the message ‘CHECK ESC’, it means there’s a fault with the system. Faults are often due to sensors issues, particularly the ABS sensor which the system shares.
ABS Warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) prevents the wheels from locking during heavy braking and making it easier to steer during emergency braking. If the orange ABS warning light stays on, it means the system has malfunctioned. The usual fault is due to one of the sensors located at each wheel. If the ABS warning light comes on along with the spanner fault warning light and the message ‘Check ABS’, ‘Check braking system’ and ‘Check ESC’, this indicates that the ABS, the ESC and the emergency brake assist are disabled. Have vehicle serviced as soon as possible.
Variable Power Steering warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic variable power steering warning light illuminating along with the STOP warning light indicates a fault. If you have been steering from left to right lock for a significant time or left the steering on full lock while the engine is on, the power steering motor may have temporarily overheated. If the warning light goes off, you can continue your journey.
Diesel Preheat warning Light
The diesel preheat (glow plug) warning light applies to diesel versions of the Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic. Turn the ignition to ‘on’ and wait for the light to go off before starting. if starting the engine when the outdoor temperature is very low (below – 10 ° C): hold down the clutch pedal until the engine starts.

If the system is unavailable, the warning light displays on the dashboard display.
Assisted Parking warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic assisted parking system can perform four types of manoeuvres:
- parallel parking
- perpendicular parking
- angle parking
- moving out of a parallel parking space
If the parking assist warning light illuminates, release the steering wheel and follow the onscreen instructions. If the system is not functioning correctly, check the parking distance control sensors located on the front and rear bumpers are not dirty or blocked.
Lane Departure Assist warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic lane departure assist system uses information from the camera mounted centre-top of the windscreen to warn the driver if they cross a continuous or broken line without activating the direction indicator lights. If the system is not working as expected, or the warning light comes on along with the spanner fault warning light , check that the windscreen is clear around the camera area.
Active Emergency Braking warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic active emergency braking system uses information from the camera mounted centre-top of the windscreen to calculate the distance which separates it from the vehicle in front and the surrounding pedestrians. The system notifies the driver if there is a risk of head-on collision. If the warning light remains lit along with the message ‘Active braking disconnected’, there’s a fault with the system. Check that the windscreen is clear around the camera area.
Tyre Pressure warning Light
The Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic tyre pressure warning light comes on for the following reasons:
- Loss of pressure detected in one or more tyres. If the warning light comes on along with the STOP warning light it means there’s a puncture and you must stop immediately. Avoid harsh braking or steering.

For details on how to reset the tyre pressure system , see Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic tyre pressure reset.
Exhaust Gas Monitoring System warning Light
For environmental reasons, the Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic has an exhaust gas monitoring system. This warning light, often called the ‘check engine’ warning light comes on when a fault has been detected which impacts safe emissions. If the warning light flashes, it may indicate that the engine is misfiring. If this happens, reduce the engine speed until the light stops flashing. Have engine checked as soon as possible as this can result in catalytic converter damage. If the warning light comes on along with the message ‘Check anti- pollution
system’ is displayed and the spanner fault warning light , it’s a fault with the diesel injection system. Have it checked right away.
Hybrid Assist warning Light
The battery and exclamation mark symbol is the Renault Scenic / Grand Scenic hybrid assist warning light. A fault has occurred with the system though operation of the vehicle is still maintained.
Electronic Parking Brake warning Light
This red symbol illuminates when the electronic parking brake is applied. If the spanner fault warning light , instrument dashboard panel accompanied by the ‘Check parking brake’ message and possibly the parking brake symbol , it means there’s a fault with the system. This can often be battery related. If there’s an assisted parking brake fault, the STOP warning light comes on along with the message ‘Braking system fault’ and possibly the parking brake symbol . In this instance, stop as soon as possible and contact a Renault workshop.
I have a white display symbol with thick up-arrow, within a circle, with a “no entry” sign across it. What does this mean?
Hi Shelly,
On the dashboard, is it an upward facing white arrow contained in a circle with a strike through it? From what I’m aware, it means that the navigation route is not currently active.
On the steering wheel RHS press the top left hand button. This will navigate through 4 possibilities.
