Renault KADJAR Faults

Renault KADJAR Faults

Here we look at the Renault KADJAR common faults. These include electrical and mechanical problems along with an explanation of what to do.

FaultPossible CausesWhat to do
The Renault card does not lock or unlock the doors. The card battery is flat.Replace the card battery. Card battery lasts for approximately 2 years. You can still lock / unlock and start your vehicle using your integrated key / key fob.
Use of other devices that are operating on the same frequency as the card. This could be a mobile phone for example.Stop using the equipment or use the integrated key.
Vehicle located in a high electromagnetic radiation zone. Vehicle battery flat.Use the key integrated in the card.
The vehicle is started. With the engine running, the card’s locking / unlocking device is blocked. Turn off the ignition.
The remote control does not lock or unlock the doors. The battery in the remote control is flat.Use the emergency key or replace the battery.
Use of other devices that are operating on the same frequency as the remote control. This could be a mobile phone for example.Stop using the devices that are interfering or use the key.
Vehicle located in a high electromagnetic radiation zone. Discharged battery.Replace the battery. You can still lock / unlock and start your vehicle. Use the radio frequency remote control or the emergency key integrated in the card to unlock the front door.
The vehicle is started. With the engine running, the key’s locking / unlocking device is blocked. Turn off the ignition.

The instrument panel dashboard indicator lights are weak or do not light up and the starter
does not turn.
Battery terminals require tightening, battery terminals disconnected or oxidised.Tighten or reconnect the terminals. Clean them if they are oxidised.
Discharged battery or not operational.Connect an alternative battery to the faulty battery or replace the battery. Do not attempt to push the vehicle if the steering column is locked.
Faulty circuit. This fault requires an approved Renault engineer.
The engine fails to start. The required starting conditions are not fulfilled.Insert the Renault card and:
• Renault Kadjar with an automatic gearbox, place the gear lever in position P, fully press the brake pedal and press engine start button.
• Renault Kadjar with a manual gearbox, fully press the brake or clutch pedal and press the engine start button. If a gear is already engaged, the vehicle may only be started by fully pressing the clutch pedal.
The Renault card does not work.Possible reasons:
• Card battery is drained.
• Close to devices that are operating on the same frequency as the card. Mobile phone for example.
• vehicle located in a high electromagnetic radiation zone.
• Message 'Place card close START and push' displays on the dashboard instrument panel.
What to do:
Depress the brake or clutch pedal, then place the Renault card (logo side) in contact with the start button for around 2 seconds. Press the start button to start the vehicle.
The engine cannot be switched off.Card not detected. If the Renault card is not in the passenger compartment or if the card battery is low when you try to switch the engine off, the message 'No keycard Press and hold' displays on the dashboard instrument panel. Press the start button for longer than two seconds.
Electronic fault.Press the starter button quickly five times.
The steering column stays locked.Steering wheel locked.Whilst pressing the engine start button, move the steering wheels or if it's a key ignition, turn the steering wheel whilst turning the key.
Faulty circuit. This fault requires an approved Renault engineer.

Vehicle vibrations.Check tyres are inflated to correct pressures, correctly balanced or not damaged.Check the tyre pressures. Correct pressures can be located on label inside driver's door. If this does not resolve the fault, have them checked by an engineer.
White smoke from the exhaust. In the diesel version of the Renault Kadjar, it isn't necessarily a fault. Smoke may be caused by particle filter regeneration.See Renault Kadjar dashboard warning lights and diesel particulate filter for further information.
Smoke under the bonnet.Short-circuit or cooling system leak.Stop, switch off the ignition, stand away from the vehicle and contact a Renault approved engineer.
The oil pressure warning light comes on while cornering or braking.Oil level is too low.Top up the engine oil level using the dip stick. Do not overfill. Top up slowly and ensure oil level falls between the MIN. and MAX. on the dip stick level markers.
The oil pressure warning light comes on; is slow to go out or remains lit under accelerationLoss of oil pressure.Stop as soon as safe to do so and switch off engine. Do not contine to drive. See Renault Kadjar dashboard warning lights and low oil pressure warning light for further information.
Steering becomes heavy.• Steering assistance overheating.
• Fault with the electric assistance motor.
• Fault in the assistance system.
Drive carefully and at reduced speed. Greater force may be required to turn the wheel. Consult an approved Renault engineer.
The engine is overheating. The coolant temperature indicator is in the warning zone and STOP warning light comes on.Engine cooling fan is not working.Safely stop the vehicle, switch off the engine and
contact a Renault qualified engineer.
Engine coolant leaks.Check the engine coolant reservoir to ensure coolant is present. If there is a significant lack of coolant, it must never be topped up using cold coolant while the engine is very warm. First allow the engine to cool down. Contact a Renault qualified engineer.
Coolant boiling in the coolant reservoir.Mechanical fault: damaged cylinder head gasket.Safely stop the vehicle and switch off the engine. Do not continue to drive. Contact a Renault qualified engineer.

The windshield wipers do not work.Wiper blades are stuck.Free the blades before using the wipers.
Faulty electrical circuit.Consult an approved Renault engineer.
Fuse damaged.Replace the fuse or have it replaced.
The windshield wiper does not stop.Faulty electrical controls.Consult an approved Renault engineer.
Direction indicators flashing more quickly.Blown bulb.Change faulty bulb.
The direction indicators do not work.Faulty electrical circuit or control.Consult an approved Renault engineer.
Fuse damaged / blown.Replace the fuse or have it replaced.
The lights do not come on or go off.Faulty electrical circuit or control.Consult an approved Renault engineer.
Fuse damaged.Replace the fuse or have it replaced.
Traces of condensation in the headlights or rear lights.Natural variation in temperature and humidity may cause condensation.Once the lights are switched on, the traces of condensation will disappear.
The front seat belt reminder light comes on when the seat belts are fastened. An object is stuck between the floor and the seat and is disrupting the operation of the sensor.Remove all objects from underneath the front seats.
