Škoda Yeti Power Steering Warning Light
Under normal operating conditions, the Škoda Yeti power steering warning light should illuminate with the ignition switched to on and go off shortly after the engine has started.
If the power steering warning light stays on or comes on while driving, it indicates one of the following problems:
Red Power Steering Warning Light
- Constantly on: The red power steering warning light illuminating on the Škoda Yeti dashboard means there’s a total failure of the power steering system and steering assist is no longer available. Turning the steering wheel will require significantly higher physical force, particularly at slow speeds.
- Flashing: A flashing red power steering warning light illuminating on the Škoda Yeti dashboard means there’s a fault in the steering column lock. After switching off the ignition, it may no longer be possible to start the engine. With he red power steering warning light, it will be required to have fault codes read by a diagnostic code reader.
Yellow Power Steering Warning Light
- Constantly on: The yellow power steering warning light illuminating on the Škoda Yeti dashboard means there’s a partial failure of the power steering system. This can be caused by excessive steering from left to right lock while the vehicle is stationary, or leaving the steering on full lock while the engine is running and the vehicle is stationary. This can cause the power steering motor to overheat. This is temporary and normal operation should resume once the motor has cooled. If the warning light remains on, it can be an indication of a failing battery or alternator. The steering wheel angle sensor is also prone to fault.
- Flashing: A flashing yellow power steering warning light illuminating on the Škoda Yeti dashboard means there’s a fault in the steering column lock. Unlike with the red flashing symbol, it is possible to continue to use the vehicle, but have system checked as soon as possible.
